New Rusumo clinic serves 100 people every day

Since the dedication in March, the “Doc Taggart” health clinic in Rusumo has provided medical services to more than 100 people each day. Most are being treated for malaria, flu and minor injuries. The clinic is playing its part in insuring universal health coverage in Rwanda. In the first month, clinic staff has collected more than 1.6 million Rwf (nearly $2,000 USD) in health insurance payments. This represents payment in full for the entire year for the people who have been served (families are expected to pay $6 for each family member each year toward the cost of universal health coverage). Pretty amazing for families who live on less than $3/day! The clinic will serve about 17,000 people in the extended community.
