Haiti Leaders Will Formally Launch Their Organization in August

After two years of formation, hundreds of leaders from 13 communities will gather to formally launch OPODNE to address the issues afflicting the Northeast Department of Haiti. They will elect officers and advance strategies for development. Workshops on economic development projects have been held in Capotille (peanut cooperative); Grand Bassin (goat project); and Phaeton (fishing project) and Local Organizing Committees set up bank accounts each with $3000 as seed funding for their projects. Leaders are seeking a partnership with Meds and Foods for Kids Project, which makes nutritionally enhanced peanut butter bars to fight malnutrition. Four hundred trees were distributed to families in Paulette, Terrier Rouge and Grand Bassin as part of reforestation efforts.
