Anglican Diocese joins PICO organizing effort In El Salvador

Anglican Bishop David Alvarado convened ten priests from across the country to explore faith based community organizing as a tool to serve their families and communities. Through training provided by Alberto Velazquez, Executive Director of COFOA, clergy engaged in a lively conversation about the economic and social pressures which their families experience. They cited the lack of jobs, violence, health, housing and other issues their parishioners bring to their attention on a daily basis. Each then expressed a commitment to bring a team of leaders together in their parishes to learn the PICO model and organize communities to meet with public officials and develop solutions to these issues. This partnership represents a new opportunity for COFOA to build the power needed to improve conditions for the people of El Salvador who have suffered far too long.
